PROJECT Kirat: JOB APPLICATION SUPPORT FOR IMMIGRANT WOMEN
Navigating the job market is already a challenge within itself. It’s made to be even more daunting with evolving technologies, platforms, and standards. All of these challenges are multiplied tenfold for immigrants navigating the market in a new geography and culture, but multiplied by yet another tenfold if you identify as an immigrant woman. They may have amazing experience, phenomenal recommendations and still not get a job, and be found stuck in a low-income lifestyle, simply because they didn’t have the right tools and guidance to lead them through the job market.
Project Kirat aims to support immigrant women in developing the right tools and providing the right guidance to navigate the job market according to their respective industries. BAYSG’s members are young adults that have either been through the job application and interview cycle recently, or interact with it fairly regularly, providing us with the appropriate experience to provide the most up to date guidance on navigating through the job market.
WHAT TO EXPECT AS A PARTICIPANT OF PROJECT KIRAT:
As a participant, you will be matched up with one of our Volunteer Job Coaches who will guide you through the five pillars of this program. They are young professionals who have recently gone through the job application process and are familiar with the Bay Area job market.
Our Volunteer Job Coaches will guide you through:
1. Creating or polishing up your resume
2. Practicing interview skills
3. Designing the perfect elevator pitch
4. Navigating the best job boards
5. Learning networking best practices
Our hope is that this program better equips you with the knowledge and tools you need to put your best foot forward as you step into the Bay Area job market.
